A player who graced the international level of hockey on numerous occasions throughout his storied career, Joe Sakic would wear the red and white of Team Canada at major tournaments such as the 1996 and 2004 World Cup of Hockey, 1998, 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympic Games, the 1991 and 1994 IIHF World Championships and the 1988 IIHF World Junior Championships. Scoring the pivotal game-winning goal that demoralized the Americans and secured Canada’s first Olympic gold medal in half a century at the 2002 edition of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and leading Team Canada in points at the 1991 IIHF World Championships in Finland where Canada won a silver medal, offered here is this Offered here, we present this Team Canada jersey worn by Sakic while serving as one of the team's alternate captain's at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, the first Olympic Games to feature players from the National Hockey League playing for their countries. A Bauer made garment in a mix of air-knit and satin materials, Bauer Pro and Bauer Authentic labeling is affixed to the inner collar along with a size "54" fly label as well. Having also had a Bauer wordmark logo patch added over the reverse neckline and a company logo embroidered into the right breast, the front of the jersey is decorated with a familiar Hockey Canada team crest that features embroidered details while matching style Hockey Canada patches have been placed atop of both shoulders as well. Featuring the distinguished alternate captain's "A" over the left breast, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Sakic's number "91" in dual layer white-over-black tackle twill numerals while "Sakic" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Displaying with no obvious signs of game-wear and displaying a Bauer barcode heat pressed on inside the reverse hem, Getty Image #329947 (February 14th, 1998 vs Sweden) appears to show a match to the loose black coloured thread at 2 o'clock on the "9" of the right sleeve but is not clear enough for us to call it a conclusive match. Having worn red on February 13th vs Belarus, February 14th vs Sweden and February 16th vs the United States (the red jersey worn against the United States is clearly different from this one when looking at images from the contest), a COA from Hockey Canada signed by Bob Nicholson will accompany the piece.
