A player who graced the international level of hockey on numerous occasions throughout his storied career, Joe Sakic would wear the red and white of Team Canada at major tournaments such as the 1996 and 2004 World Cup of Hockey, 1998, 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympic Games, the 1991 and 1994 IIHF World Championships and the 1988 IIHF World Junior Championships. Scoring the pivotal game-winning goal that demoralized the Americans and secured Canada’s first Olympic gold medal in half a century at the 2002 edition of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and leading Team Canada in points at the 1991 IIHF World Championships in Finland where Canada won a silver medal, offered here is this Offered here from the 1991 Canada Cup, we present this Team Canada jersey worn by "Burnaby Joe" during pre-tournament competition before he was the first player cut from camp.
A CCM made offering with both Maska Air-Knit and size "52" labels affixed to the inner collar, the CCM logo is found embroidered in red into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a rubberized Team Canada crest and sleeve emblems that remain in excellent condition with no cracking being observed, a Labatts "Coupe Canada Cup" sponsorship patch appears over the right breast. Having been accented with Sakic's number "39" on the reverse in single layer red tackle twill numerals, "Sakic" is spelt out in matching red twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate over the top of the back. Exhibiting light but clear game-use via elements such as very light sweat staining around the collar and stick marks over both the front and reverse plus each sleeve, the jersey shows additional wear in the form of red board paint transfer marks over both sleeves and the front plus reverse hems. Additionally, there is a lone board burn over the left sleeve and some light spot/sweat stains around the hem line. A truly special international offering of one of the best to ever play the game of hockey, an image of Sakic taken during Team Canada's pre-tournament contest against Team USA appears to show a match to the placement of the nameplate over the upper reverse as well as in correlation with the letters that spell out "Sakic" and the numbers on the back.
