Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
The desirable rookie card of a hockey giant, Aubrey "Dit" Clapper, is offered here, with the Boston Bruin lifer's 6' 2" frame and his accomplishments interesting indeed. A member of Boston's Dynamite Line (with Cooney Weiland and Dutch Gainor) and an established star when "Ice Kings" were issued, Clapper had scored 41 goals in 44 games in 1929-30 and would go on to become the first NHLer to play 20 seasons. Having also captained and coached the Bruins for four years, Clapper would be the first and only player inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and have his number retired at the conclusion of his last game. The leadoff card in the 1933-34 World Wide Gum Ice Kings (V357) set, offered here is this copy of Clapper's rookie that has been deemed to be "AUTHENTIC" by the graders at SGC. Sporting an English language back and displaying absolutely beautifully, sharp corners are observed all the way around while the centering on both sides is also of a pleasing nature as well. Showing light-to-moderate toning over both sides that is worthy of mention, but not taking away from the beauty of the card itself, the SGC holder is affected by a couple of small scratches and scuffs over both sides.
