Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024

One of only seven men throughout a century of NHL hockey to eclipse the insurmountable 700-goal plateau, Alexander Ovechkin has proven himself as one of the game’s all-time greatest, with HOF enshrinement guaranteed. Staring down the barrel towards the NHL's all-time goal scoring record currently held by Wayne Gretzky and the practical owner of the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy that is awarded at seasons end to the man with the most goals during the season, Ovi has won it nine (9) times, including a run of four (4) straight between 2012-13 and 2015-16. From a year that saw him with the 5th goal scoring title of his career, offered here is this stick used by Ovechkin during the 2014-15 season of play. A Bauer TotalOne NXG model offering with "Ovie 8" factory graphics appearing over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original tape job of blue cloth finished with red vinyl at the bottom over the handle/knob and white that has been darkened over both sides around the blade. Retaining its factory production date and serial number stickers affixed to the underside of the shaft, Ovechkin has signed the stick over the forehand side of the blade with a bronze coloured marker ink signature that displays without issue. Tacky to the touch with a bit of residue from a now dried gripping agent visible over the middle of the shaft, the stick shows just light game-use via a handful of small marks and abrasions throughout the shaft, heel and blade while the blade tape shows marks over both sides and wear to the bottom edge/toe that includes small rips. Originally acquired by a longtime employee of the Detroit Red Wings, an LOA will accompany the piece.
