Arriving in The Big Apple in 1996-97 after rejecting a three-year deal with St Louis worth $15 million, Wayne Gretzky settled in New York for his final three NHL seasons, with #99 fittingly ending his career in 1999. This stick was used by the icon during his swan song NHL season in 1998-99. A Hespeler CS Pro model, “Gretzky” factory graphics appear over the upper shaft and are also stamped over the stem of the inserted wooden Hespeler blade. The stick sports Wayne’s patented Jack the Gripper in a blue colour over the knob, with the black tape intact on the blade. There is also coding to the underside of “5R/260 – 1/260”. Displaying good game-use, a few marks/abrasions are observed throughout the shaft but mostly at the bottom where the blade gets inserted, the blade itself exhibits numerous dark puck and stick marks to the stem and heel on both sides as well as over the toe. Also showing some wear and marks over both sides of the blade as well as some light baby powder residue, Wayne's final NHL campaign saw him register 62 points in 70 games at 38 years-of-age to bring his career point total up to an astonishing 2857. A Shawn Chaulk LOA will accompany the piece.
