Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

The genesis of modern goaltender protection, Jacques Plante famously donned his practice mask to the dismay of coach Toe Blake after being his by a shot from Andy Bathgate that required stitches, with this occurring on Nov 1, 1959. Plante would continue to wear his mask during the season and then throughout his career, slowly encouraging other keepers to follow suit. The season was also memorable for the Canadiens sheer dominance during the regular campaign, finishing in first place - culminating in the franchise's fifth straight Stanley Cup championship. Originating from the Hall of Fame, we have a photo display of the 1959-60 Stanley Cup champions that has been signed by 13 team members. At approx 9 3/4" x 9 3/4", the photo has been mounted to cardboard, with a bit of paper loss to the bottom right corner. All 13 have signed beneath the images in thin or thick blue marker, including deceased HOFers Beliveau, Moore, and the Richard Brothers, along with Bonin, Talbot, Backstrom, Hodge, McDonald, Langlois, Provost, Goyette and Don Marshall. The signatures display beautifully, and we should note velcro to the reverse from prior display. A JSA LOA will accompany.
