Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Still one of the most collected players in the hobby and the cornerstone of the famous Howe family, offered here is this group of eight (8) Howe memorabilia offerings from Upper Deck's 2003-04 SPx Hockey release. Including a quartet of "Fantasy Franchise" triple jersey examples with two showcasing "Mr. Hockey" alongside Steve Yzerman and Henrik Zetterberg and the other pair sporting Howe with Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, swatches of material cut from jerseys worn by each player have been embedded into the front of each with the Howe/Yzerman/Zetterberg specimens serial numbered "17/25" and "45/75" respectively while the Howe/Gretzky/Lemieux cards are serial numbered "07/25" and "31/75". For the remaining four (4) cards, also all triple jersey cards in the same format but this time via "SPx Style" examples, Howe is featured on two of them with Joe Thornton and Todd Bertuzzi ("03/25" and "56/99") while the other pairing displays him with Rick Nash as well as Bertuzzi once again ("21/25" and "58/99"). In terms of condition, all display well with the most prominent wear being found through dings/flaws at the edges and corners.
