Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Offered here, we present this trio of signed memorabilia cards that feature the 1972 HHOF inductee as their main subject. Hailing from Upper Deck Series 1, Trilogy and SP Game Used releases that date between 2001-02 and 2006-07, each card features a swatch of material cut from a jersey worn by Howe embedded into the front of it while his instantly recognizable signature is penned over the front of each as well. Spearheaded by a 2001-02 UD SP Game Used "Ink Sweaters" card picturing Howe as a member of the Houston Aeros that is serial numbered "41/50" over the front left side in silver foil, also included is a 2004-05 Upper Deck Series 1 "Autographed UD Game Jersey" that is serial numbered "13/25" and a 2006-07 Upper Deck Trilogy "Honorary Scripted Swatches" which also displays with an out of "25" serial number, the one included here number "20" in the run of them. With the other two cards showing Howe during his days as a member of the Detroit Red Wings and featuring white and red coloured material swatches, Howe's autograph and "Mr. Hockey" annotation graces all three (3) cards with the first one being an on card signature and the other two sticker autos. All displaying well and done in bold blue marker ink, light light wear is seen on the signature of the 2001-02 UD SP Game Used example. All remaining in excellent condition, light corner and edge wear is seen throughout the group of these seldom seen cards showcasing one of the greatest to ever grace the ice.
