Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Inducted into the hallowed halls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, offered here is this quartet of cards autographed by Howe that hail from the 2003-04 Upper Deck Trilogy hockey release. All part of the "Custom Script" subset of cards, each displays the same image of Howe from early in his career as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. With each not having been serial numbered, Howe has signed over the front of each card with his instantly recognizable "Mr. Hockey" signature in crisp blue marker ink while also penning a different annotation underneath each one, including those that read "HOF. 72", "Mr. Elbows", "4 Time Stanley Cup Champion" and "The Production Line". With each signature displaying without issue, the cards themselves, found in their original raw ungraded form, also remain in excellent condition with just some light corner and edge wear evident throughout the group.
