Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Inducted into the hallowed halls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, offered here is pair of Howe autographed cards that hail from Upper Deck's 2000 Kit Young Conference release. Marking the 15th year that the conference was held, both of the cards sport imagery of Howe during his days as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Including a solo-signed example that has been hand serial-numbered in blue marker ink as being "102" in a print run of "500" examples, the second card, hand serial-numbered "27/100" in matching style at the bottom right portion has also been signed by Howe along with adding sports legends including Julius Erving, Joe Namath and Tom Seaver. With all the signatures having been penned in crisp blue marker ink and displaying without issue, the cards themselves, remaining in raw ungraded form are both in excellent condition with some light wear touches to the corners and edges worth mentioning for accuracy.
