Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Playing five seasons in the rival league otherwise known as the World Hockey Association between 1974 and 197, the Indianapolis Racers feature a strong alumni list including names such as Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Pat Stapleton, Dave Keon, Michel Dion and Kim Clackson just to name a few. Closing up shop after only 25 games of the 1978-79 season, offered here is this vintage WHA Indianapolis Racers from the 1970s. A heavy canvas construction offering that sports a partially detached and worn Gerry Cosby's label over the top, the now faded blue sack with red coloured canvas handles has had red coloured leather reinforcements sewn to each corner and metal feet added to the bottom. Featuring "Indianapolis Racers" stencilled to one side in vinyl white letters and the number "3" in matching style on the other side, research shows that the number was worn by Robert Ash (1974-75), Richard Proceviat (1975-76 and 1976-77) and Glen Irwin (1977-78 and 1978-79). With the zipper at the top still functional despite the pull tabs having been broken off of both, the bag exhibit heavy use through fading, small holes and cuts, scuffing, general dirtiness and staining on the exterior with the inside in similar condition.
