Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
The eighth and final international appearance of his storied career, Wayne Gretzky would register a total of four (4) points in six (6) games played during the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, the first such Olympics in which National Hockey League players were eligible to represent their countries. Presented here is the white-coloured jersey style that Gretzky would wear in his only appearance at the Winter Olympics in 1998. Made by Bauer, the company’s Bauer pro labeling is found affixed to the collar with the jersey measuring out to roughly a size "52". Sporting a Bauer logo patch on the reverse neckline and featuring a patriotic Team Canada crest on the chest as well as over both shoulders, the reverse and sleeves feature “99” sewn on in layered tackle twill with “Gretzky” layered across the affixed red twill nameplate in single layer white twill letters. Remaining in good condition with wear including what appears to be stick marks over the lower front, some spot stains throughout (heaviest around the edges of the crest and collar), a blue board burn like mark over the lower front and pilling on the outside of each elbow, a velcro patch has been sewn inside the revere hem where a handwritten "JP" notation in black marker ink is also present. Featuring pro on-ice style elements such as a fight strap and reinforced elbows, Wayne has graciously signed over the front crest with a black marker ink signature that displays with some light bleeding around the edges and light fading from age. A JSA Auction LOA will accompany the piece.
