Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
Regarded as the most successful Finnish hockey club of the 21st century and the eight (8) time winner of the Kanada-malja, as the champion of the SM-liiga, Oulun Karpat lays claim to over fifty (50) players that have also played in the National Hockey League, including Reijo Ruotsalainen, who wore this jersey when he returned to his hometown club for a total of seventeen (17) games in the 1996-97 season. A thin lightweight mesh construction offering made by Tackla, the jersey is void of any labeling affixed to the inner collar but measures out to roughly a size "54". Decorated throughout the black, white and yellow garment with a mix of both screened on and sewn on sponsorship logos, including those for companies such as Neste, Clique, JOT, Huittisten, Phillips, Videra, Reebok, Zyrtec, Prisma and others, the Oulun Karpat is found sublimated into the material directly underneath the collar of the jersey and a matching mesh nameplate with "Ruotsalainen" spelt out in sublimated white letters is sewn on over the reverse hem. Styled over the sleeves and verso with Ruotsalainen's number "10" in sublimated numerals, the sleeves are reinforced on the interior from the elbow down to the cuff. Exhibiting light but clear game-wear, a few stick marks are scattered over both sleeves while a few board burns are present over the right one as well. Hailing from his personal collection, an LOA signed by Ruotsalainen's will accompany the piece.
