Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/21/2024
Longtime teammates of the Chicago Black Hawks who played a combined 1594 games in the National Hockey League, both Pat Stapleton and Dennis Hull were selected to represent Canada against the Soviet Union at the Summit Series in 1972 with Hull recording four (4) points over his four (4) played games while Stapleton finished up as a +6 in seven (7) games played. Offered here, we present this pair of sticks issued to Stapleton and Hull and used during training camp. A special Victoriaville Team Canada model stick produced specifically for the tournament, each has "Special Model" stamped to them while one sports "D Hull" and the other "P Stapleton". With the red and white coloured accent stickers largely intact over the shafts of both sticks, the Stapleton stick retains its original white tape job over the knob with the blade tape having been removed (residue still present) while the Hull stick still sports its original vintage black wrapping over both the handle/knob and blade. Of note, the tape on the knob of the Stapleton stick differs a little from what he normally did and could indicate it was used by another player while the Hull stick matches up well with other examples. Additionally, Stapleton and can be seen in his 8" x 10" black-and-white press photo from training camp with one of these Victoriaville sticks in hand. Exhibiting wear via some marks/abrasions over each with the Hull stick carrying the bulk of them, it is also worth noting that the Hull stick shows staining/discolouration near the top of the shaft as well as what appears to be tape or sticker residue on the backside. Finally, both players have signed their respective sticks with blue marker ink autographs that display well and without issue. A pair of relics from hockey's most famous series, don't miss out on this duo of historically significant lumber!
