This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/25/2024
The National League rookie of the year in 1951, Willie Mays is a twelve-time Gold Glove Award winner, with his 24 All-Star Game appearances a three-way tie for most all-time. A World Series champion in 1954 with the New York Giants and inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979, offered here is this collection of memorabilia signed by "The Say Hey Kid". Leading off, included is a bat signed by Mays, an An Adirondack 302 signature model – the same type employed by Mays during his career. Measuring 34" in length and with perfect deep stampings, no numbers appear over the knob, with a blond finish over the barrel. Signed by Mays with a bluer marker ink signature over top of the brand of his name on the barrell, the autograph remains in overall excellent condition, as does the bat. For the pair of baseballs, Rawlings made "Official National League" offerings that sport the facsimile signature of William White, both balls date between 1993-1994 and display with spotty toning of varying levels throughout as well as strong stampings. Signed by Mays over the sweet spots of both with blue ballpoint pen ink signatures, both autos show well despite some fading from age while both ball as are housed in display cases that include wooden bases with plaques that read "Willie Mays - 660 Career Home Runs". Additionally, also included with the lot is an additional ONL baseball from the same era that is signed over the sweet spot by 1982 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, Hank Aaron. Another ball with William White's signature from 1993-94, Aaron has signed it with a blue ballpoint pen ink signature that shows with some fading while the ball shows toning similar to the Mays examples. A JSA Auction LOA will accompany the lot.
