Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Drinkers of Coca-Cola (and Sprite) in the mid-1960s had some nifty promotions to consider, with the '65-66 season presenting consumers with the chance to send away for complete team sets of square-ish cards on thick paper stock which could be mounted and stored in a special album. Offered here, we present this complete set of the 1965-66 Coca-Cola offerings that are housed within their accompanying album. The cards were originally attached but perforated and could be easily torn apart, with an order form for the send-away album on each team set. "Quite nice" is the way we see the album and cards here, with the former showing light handling, wear and creasing to the covers and the latter nice and white and neatly/carefully inserted in their appropriate slots though done in a way that the printed statistics on the back of each card cannot be seen. Featuring all of the star players and future Hockey Hall of Famers of the era, it should also be mentioned that the bottom left corner of the album displays some toning/foxing and that there is a tape stain in the "autographs" section in the back of the album as well. Additionally, also accompanying the album and its cards is a complete set of the twenty (20) Detroit Red Wings coins from the 1961-62 Shirriff release as well as the Red Wings plastic shield. With the previously mentioned shield brittle and displaying with numerous cracks and missing pieces, the coins were all glued down into it with many coming loose over time though some are still attached. For the coins themselves, the paper disk image inserts display with varying degrees of toning/light foxing while the coins sport some age and handling wear. Additionally, those that have come loose from the shield have glue residue on their reverses.
