Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023

Selected in the 19th round of the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft by the St. Louis Blues and playing a total of 16 games for the club when combining both regular season and playoffs, Gary Veneruzzo would jump ship to the WHA in 1972-73 and play a total of 348 games in the league for clubs such as Los Angeles, Michigan/Baltimore, Cincinnati, Phoenix and San Diego. Ranked 56th all-time in scoring for the history of the World Hockey Association, offered here is this Cincinnati Stingers jersey worn by Veneruzzo during his short stint with the club in their inaugural season of 1975-76. Made by Rawlings, a brand label displaying a size "48" designation is affixed to the inner collar while the front of the jersey is decorated with a beautiful stingers team crest in layered tackle twill. Accented over the sleeves and verso of the black-and-yellow dureen garment with Veneruzzo's number "18" in dual-layer black-over-white tackle twill numerals, "Veneruzzo" is spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the back. Of note, both Veneruzzo and Murray Myers wore #18 during the season but it does not appear that the Veneruzzo nameplate on the reverse was ever taken off for a Myers example and then reapplied at a later date. Veneruzzo was traded to the Phoenix Roadrunners somewhere between November 15th and December 4th based on available game records. Utilizing a loop style fight strap on the interior, the jersey shows excellent game-wear in the form of team repairs over the lower front totaling three (3), stick marks to the front, reverse and both sleeves and light board burns over both sleeves as well. Additionally, staining is present under the collar on the front and at the hem line while holes/fabric runs are present on the reverse, both above and underneath the number "8". Finally, pilling/fraying and loose threads are observed on the interior.
