Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024

Only a teenager when he arrived on the Major League Baseball scene, Sandy Koufax would go on to accumulate multiple impressive laurels in his all-too-short career that had him becoming, in 1972 at age 36, the youngest player ever elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Four no-hitters, three Cy Young Awards (the only pitcher to win three in an era when just one award was given for both leagues), two World Series MVP awards - in short, one of the greatest pitchers of all-time and one of the outstanding Jewish athletes in U.S. sports history - Sandy's career was fascinating! Offered here, we present this Los Angeles Dodgers jersey signed by Koufax. A Mitchell and Ness made vintage style offering that remains in new-with-tags condition, the road grey style button-up shirt is decorated over the front with "Los Angeles" in a script style done in single layer blue felt while Sandy's number "32" is found over the front left side and reverse in either red or blue single layer felt numerals. Sporting a Mitchell and Ness brand tag affixed to the inner collar that also includes a size "XL" designation, a Cooperstown Collection label has been added over the front left side tail as well while Koufax has signed over the front with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue. A JSA Auction LOA will accompany the piece.
Additionally, also included with the lot is a 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers team statue made by Danbury Mint. The first and only team to bring a World Series crown to Brooklyn, the statue features figurines of Jim Gilliam, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Carl Furillo, Gil Hodges, Jackie Robinson, Sandy Amaros, Don Newcombe and Walter Alston standing side by side over a 28" long wooden base that displays their names and positions. With each representation measuring between 6" and 7" tall and in historically accurate uniform depictions, a plaque reading "The 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers" resides over the front. Remaining in overall good condition with the original box included, some of the figurines are a bit loose and the bats that Gil Hodges is holding are both partially broken.
