Regarded as one of the finest players to ever grace the diamonds of Major League Baseball that does not yet find his name in the hallowed halls of Cooperstown, Dick Allen would enjoy a 15-year Major League career that saw him be named an all-star seven (7) times, win the National League's "Rookie of the Year" award in 1964, win the American League's MVP Award in 1972 and lead the American League in home runs for both the 1972 and 1974 campaigns. Having had his number "15" retired by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2020, offered here, we present this one-year style Los Angeles Dodgers jersey worn by Allen during the 1971 season. A flannel material offering made by Rawlings, the brand's label that displays a size "44" designation is affixed to the inner collar while a washing instructions tag and "Set 1 #BP 1971" year identifier is found sewn inside the front left tail. Having had "Allen 71" chain-stitched over the front left tail in blue thread, the chest of the jersey is decorated with "Dodgers" in the franchise's famous script lettering that is done in blue-over-white felt while Allen's number "15" is seen underneath in single layer red felt numerals. Accented with racing stripe piping down the arms and at each cuff, the number "15" also found on the reverse in blue-over-white stacked felt style. Remaining in its original state with no evidence of recycling to the minor leagues, the jersey shows light signs of wear throughout including some light staining/soiling over the front and reverse while retaining its beautiful original colour. Of note, a few small areas at the edges of the felt lettering and numerals have separated from the body, heaviest on the reverse number "5", are worth mentioning for accuracy. A rare and desirable high-grade specimen with excellent pedigree, Allen has signed the lower right tail on the front with a large blue marker ink signature that displays without issue and has added inscriptions pertaining to his 1964 ROY Award, 1972 AL MVP Award and 351 career HR's in matching ink that display in the same condition. A truly special piece once donned by a special player, the jersey comes accompanied by a book detailing its authentication by SGC and noted vintage baseball uniform guru, Dave Grob, who have given the jersey a final grade of E/S, standing for "Excellent/Superior" to due its all original attributes and wear patterns
