Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
The rookie cards of three well-known coaches and six now Hall of Fame players have always contributed to the popularity of O-Pee-Chee’s 1974-75 issue, for the first time a big 396-card effort. Offered here, we present this group of 177 cards from the 1974-75 O-Pee-Chee release that have been signed by the player depicted over the front. For the notables, four (4) Bobby Orr autographed offers are featured, including three (3) copies of card #100 that range from VG to VG-EX up to VG-EX to EX (one with light corner wear, one with a print mark at the left border and a ding at the right border and one that has 95-5 centering on the reverse) while a lone copy of card #130, Orr's All-Star card is included, in the range of VG to VG-EX shape with 95-5 centering on the front and light corner wear. For the rest of the keys, signed cardboard is found for 20-Mikita (FR to G - creased and corner wear/dings), 40-Sittler (PR - staple holes), 147-Geoffrion (GOOD - faint cream top middle), 161-Cherry RC (GOOD - small cream top right plus corner wear/dings), 168-McDonald RC (GOOD - faint crease bottom left), 260-Clarke (VG to VG-EX - light corner wear and 261-Bowman RC (x2 - one G to VG with corner wear and a tiny mark on his forehead and one VG to VG-EX with corner wear). Having been signed in a mix of ways including black and blue marker ink and blue ballpoint pen, the autographs remain legible while it should be noted that some show fading from age. Additionally, the key cards listed above are accompanied by a JSA Auction LOA.
Including a group of thirty-eight (38) Hockey Hall of Fame inductees (including names like Lafleur, Quinn, Bucyk, Vachon, Ullman, Keon, T. Esposito, Laperriere, Park, Barber, Savard, Arbour and others) the cards are largely found to be in the condition ranges off G to VG for their efforts with some a bit better and some a bit worse off, largely affected by corner wear while some exhibit some creasing as well. For the rest of the cards, consisting of commons, once again the group is seen as being in the same G to VG range with some a bit better and some a bit worse, largely affected by creasing while a few fall closer to PR condition due to multiple creases. Please note, the JSA Auction LOA that accompanies the group is ONLY for the first twelve (12) cards listed above.
