Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
So completely dominant in the AHL as three-time consecutive Calder Cup champions during the early-1960s that fans swore the club could compete in the NHL, the Springfield Indians were almost as famous as the franchise's owner, legendary defenseman Eddie Shore; who would own and control the team with an iron fist for almost four decades. Originating from the golden age of the club, we offer a 1962-63 Indians jacket that according to our consignor, originated from the estate of Shore (Eddie's personal jacket was sold a number of years ago and had an inscription from the family on the breast). Canvas in dark blue with knit cuffs and collar, a label from Gerry Crosby with "44" sizing is affixed to the collar. Styled with a chenille Indians crest to the left breast, there are crossed American and Canadian flags on the right sleeve and a chenille shield crest with "AHL Champs 59-60, 60-61 and 61-62" on the left. The jacket shows wear from age and use, with some discolouration to the material in spots, with some minor paint transfer to the left sleeve. Five of the original buttons are also missing.
