This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
A fantastic duo of classic offerings to tell you about here, headlined by a pair of legendary New York Islander Hall of Famers, up on the auction block here are complete sets of 1977-78 and 1978-79 O-Pee-Chee hockey releases. Both consisting of 396 card checklists, the 1977-78 set, an overall consistent assembly appearing to be in the condition ranges of EX to EX-MT and EX-MT to NM, all the cards are housed in top loaders that make flaws harder to interpret. Headlined by card #105 of Bryan Trottier that falls in the vicinity of EX to EX-MT with only light corner wear worth mentioning for accuracy, notable cards seen as being in the top end condition vicinity of EX-MT to NM include the likes of 38-Sittler and 200-Lafleur while EX to EX-MT range offerings include a copy of card #249, the checklist, which sports light corner wear and remains unmarked. Also featuring the likes of another checklist, card #68 (VG to VG-EX - corner wear - unmarked), 100-Dryden (VG-EX - corner wear), 211-Palmateer RC (VG-EX to EX - corner wear), 251-Orr (VG-EX to EX - completely off-center) and card #381, also a checklist (GOOD - crease - unmarked), the team checklist cards found from 71-88 in the set are all unmarked while the other stars included in the set are in a condition consistent with all the other cards.
For the 1978-79 set, found to be in a fairly uniform condition range of EX-MT to NM with all the cards once again housed in top loaders that make flaws harder to interpret at times, the key rookie card of Mike Bossy as been graded to the tune of a NEAR MINT+ 7.5 mark from Beckett while the first-year cardboard of Bernie Federko and Dave Taylor are seen as being in EX-MT to NM condition respectively. For the rest of the set, the likes of 10-Trottier, 90-Lafleur, 168-Wilson, 300-Orr, 319-Sutter and 330-Dryden AS are all in the EX-MT to NM range while the main series card of Ken Dryden presents in the scope of EX to EX-MT due to slight corner wear and centering issues. With the three (3) main series checklist cards all remaining unmarked, the team checklist specimens, found from 192 to 208 in the set, are also all unmarked as well. Of note, all the cards are housed in top loaders and will be shipped this way, making the package weight and likely the postage a bit higher in price.
