Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Still regarded as the greatest player in the history of the game of hockey and still the hold of 58 records that were set by him during his career, even 24 years after his retirement from the National Hockey League, offered here is this pair of offerings pertaining to Wayne Gretzky's final NHL game on April 18th, 1999 in the form of a pin given out by the Rangers to a few select people during the contest and his Los Angeles Kings jersey retirement on October 9th, 2002 via a game puck from the memorable contest. Starting with the pin, measuring roughly 1 1/4" in diameter, was not something that was given out to the public and can be seen being worn by close friends such as Mark Messier and Glen Sather as well as family during the contest. Displaying in a Rangers colourway with Wayne's iconic "99" displayed over the frame, light wear is seen over both sides and to the edge all the way around while the safety pin style clasp on the reverse remains in good condition and fully functional. For the puck, the official one used by the Kings during their game on October 9th, 2002 against the Phoenix Coyotes when they sent Gretzky's "99" to the rafters of Staples Centre, the slug remains in its original case that shows some handling wear and age throughout while the puck itself, sporting a large "99" on the front as well as a "Commemorative Game" designation and the date, is in excellent condition with just very light aging and surface/handing wear observed. Displaying "Official Game Puck" and the facsimile signature of Gary Bettman on the reverse, don't miss out on this pair of seldomly seen goodies honouring the game's all-time greatest player.
