This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Hailing from an era that included stars such as Mario Lemieux and Patrick Roy along with Wayne Gretzky, who was experiencing his final season in Edmonton and first season in Los Angeles, offered here is this lot consisting of complete sets of Topps' 1987-88 and 1988-89 hockey releases. Starting with the older of the two releases, the 1987-88 release features a checklist of 198-cards and is found to be in an overall consistent condition range of EX-MT to NM for its effort. Including the rookie cards of Rick Tocchet, Luc Robitaille and Adam Oates, all are in the aforementioned condition range of EX-MT to NM though it is worth mentioning for accuracy that the Robitaille offering has a factory print mark at the top border. Additionally, the rookies are joined by star cards of Lemieux, Gretzky and Roy that are in the same condition as well. For there 1988-89 set, also comprised of 198-cards and found in the overall uniform condition range of EX-MT to NM, the set includes the first cardboard appearances of 66-Hull, 194-Turgeon, 122-Shanahan and 16-Nieuwendyk, with the latter two (2) found in the top end condition range that the rest of the set is in while the card of Hull is seen as being in GOOD shape due to a crease and the card of Turgeon is around VG-EX to EX due to a top right corner ding. Additionally, the cards of 1-Lemieux and 120-Gretzky (his 1st Kings card) are both seen in EX-MT to NM condition as well
Also including a complete assembly of the 1988-89 O-Pee-Chee release to close out the lot, once again in the same EX-MT to NM condition range as the other two sets already profiled, the set includes the the RC's of 16-Nieuwendyk, 66-Hull, 122-Turgeon and 194-Shannahan with the Hull sporting 65-35 centering. Also including the same cards of Lemieux and Gretzky in the same condition, all the checklist cards included with each set are found in an unmarked state.
