Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Featuring a checklist that consisted of 264 total cards and a separate production from the Topps set found south of the border, the 1977 O-Pee-Chee baseball set is found heavily loaded with a number of players from the native Expos & Blue Jays, making their 1977 OPC team sets superior to the ones issued by their American cousin. Printed later than the Topps cards, giving OPC the opportunity to update the teams and airbrush the hats of the free agents and traded players. With each box of 1977 O-Pee-Chee baseball containing a total of 48 packs on the interior with each originally cost .10 cents, each pack contained eight (8) cards and a stick of bubble gum. This one and its contents, recently examined and certified by BBCE, survives in admirable condition with some light surface wear to all four (4) sides as well as the top lid and bottom. With the edges of the lid folded over both the left and right sides of the box, the fold up display is partially perforated and a sticker displaying "'77 OPC BB" is affixed to the top right corner. Featuring the likes of Nolan Ryan (3 Cards), George Brett (3 Cards), Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson and numerous other stars as well as the first year cards of the newly minted Toronto Blue Jays, the box also displays with some edge and corner wear as well as some light creasing. Sealed with BBCE shrink wrap, with the firm’s identifying label and tamper-proof hologram affixed to the underside, the box offers numerous possibilities for whoever will become our lucky winning bidder and the box's new owner!
