Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2024

Howie Morenz was the NHL’s original superstar, the Babe Ruth of Hockey in his day. A three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Canadiens, Morenz helped put the league on the pro sports map in the United States as well as Canada in the 1920s and ‘30s. His stunning death at the age of 34 on March 8, 1937 left his family, friends, fans, teammates and peers heartbroken by its suddenness. This coveted Howie Morenz Memorial Fund Programme is a complete 56-page edition. It comes with an original ticket stub from the benefit game played in his honor between a team of NHL All-Stars featuring Eddie Shore and Charlie Conacher and a combined Canadiens-Maroons team at the Montreal Forum on Nov. 2, 1937 to raise funds for his grieving family. The program measures 12” x 9” and exhibits minor handling and light wear to the spine, with a bit of rusting to the interior staples. The cover colours remain completely vibrant, with this copy ideal for display. The 2 1/2" x 4" ticket stub remains in very good condition, with a few small creases to corners, likely from being "tipped" into a photo album previously. There is Sweet Caporal advertising on the reverse.
