77 cards larger than the set from the previous season, the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee release rang in at 341 total cards, the biggest set released by the Canadian manufacturer up to that point and came at an important time in hockey history as the WHA entered the professional climate with its first season of play that same year. On the auction block here is this near-complete set of 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee with the grouping here largely remaining in the overall condition range of VG to VG-EX with corner wear present on most while missing cards 251, 253, 295, 299, 300, 305, 313, 323, 325, 335 and 340 for completion. Paced condition wise by EX-MT to NM examples of Checklists 1-110 (slight fuzz at top right corner - unmarked) and 111-209 (slight corner fuzz - unmarked), card #111 of Phil Esposito is found to be in the EX to EX-MT condition range with light corner wear and is the condition leader among the key cards featuring player images. Followed up by VG-EX to EX cards of 8-Dionne (printers crease left side), 129-Orr (small corner crease at bottom right) and 228-Hull AS (light wear to top two corners), cardboard in the neighbourhood of VG to VG-EX grade range include the likes of 58-Orr/Bruins IA (corner wear), 59-Lafleur (corner wear), 145-Dryden (wear to three of four corners) and 336-Hyll (off-center and corner wear), the rest of those worthy of mention include 14-Clarke (GOOD - crease), 19-Checklist (GOOD - #111-209 - unmarked - light crease), 227-Park/Orr (GOOD - bend and corner wear), 247-Dryden AS (G to VG - small crease at top left corner and corner wear), 283-Orr Leaders (FR to G - crease) and 334-Checklist (GOOD - #210-341 - unmarked - corner wear and a faint crease). Also including a second copy of Marcel Dionne's card that is around EX vicinity and off-center, the group also includes a complete set of the 28-card Team Canada subset with Paul Henderson around EX to EX-MT and sporting a factory dent while Ken Dryden is in the range of VG-EX to EX with light corner wear.
