Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Topps hockey card action from the final season of the Original Six era and first year of the expansion era are up for grabs here via this starter set of the company's 1966-67 release that features 58 of the 132 cards found making up the checklist. With a design over the front that mimics that of the new development in American living rooms, colour television, a player's picture is superimposed in front of a backdrop of a game crowd within the wood-grain border that made it look like a console TV set. Paced by a freshly graded example of Bobby Orr's key rookie card that has been deemed worthy of a 1.5 designation after inspection by PSA, the label also sports an "MC" (miscut) qualifier while visible tape residue is observed around the edges on the front. For the remaining 57 cards, all in a raw ungraded state and found to be in low-grade condition, the best condition offerings are found in the form of 6-Roberts, 54-Hall, 87-Hillman, 128-Stanley AS and 130-Worsley AS. Also including a group of cards that are hampered by big wax stains, including the likes of 8-Richard (paper residue on reverse as well), 31-Sinden, 44-Bathgate, 49-Wall, 94-Stewart, 97-McKenzie and 104-MacGregor, cards with creases include 7-Rousseau, 13-Sawchuk, 50-Boivan, 66-Checklist, 76-Pappin, 83-Baun, 84-Armstrong, 88-Neilson, 89-MacNeil, 96-Murphy, 105-Hall, 116-Montreal Canadiens (paper residue on reverse as well), 119-Detroit Red Wings and 124-Mikita AS while finally, cards with tape on multiple sides over their fronts include 2-Worsley, 3-Talbot, 4-Tremblay, 9-Provost, 10-Larose, 33-Watson, 34-Woytowich, 37-Green, 38-Willimas, 41-Martin, 55-Boyer, 56-Stanfield, 58-Ravlich, 60-Nesterenko, 61-Mohns, 63-Esposito, 64-Hull Leading Scorer, 67-Laperriere, 68-Harper, 69-Harris, 71-Duff, 73-Beliveau, 74-Balon, 75-Backstrom, 98-Dillabough, 99-Johnston, 101-Smith, 113-D.
