Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
One of the most difficult positions in all of sports with those that dare play it regarded as both fearless and a bit kooky, up for grabs here is this collection of twelve (12) 1930's Canadian Gum and O-Pee-Chee hockey cards that all feature goalies of the era. Paced by PSA graded offerings that include a copy of card #133 from the 1937-38 O-Pee-Chee Series "E" (V304E) set picturing HOFer Turk Broda over the front that has earned a mark of EX 5 for its effort and a 1933-34 Canadian Gum V252 example of card #9 featuring Lorne Chabot that displays an assessment of PR 1, the final slab comes in the form of a KSA "Authentic" offering of Wilfred Cude's 1936-37 O-Pee-Chee Series "D" V304 cardboard. Moving on to the raw cards, including a copy of card #2 from the 1933 C.A. Briggs Co. multi-sport set that features an image of a goalie on the front with the card seen as being in the range of VG vicinity with slight paper loss on the reverse, 1933-34 Canadian Gum V252 examples include those of Alex Connell (PR to FR), Dave Kerr (FR - multiple creases) and Charlie Gardiner ("Authentic" - creases and trimmed). For the rest of the cards, all O-Pee-Chee made specimens, 1936-37 Series "D" cards include those of Turk Broda ("Authentic") and Mike Karakas (G to VG - some small creases) while 1937-38 Series "E" cards are found for Wilf Cude (VG-EX and G to VG - has creases) and Bill Beveridge (G to VG - long crease). With the holders sporting creases and scuffs worth mentioning for accuracy, the group is an excellent assortment of pre-war cardboard you won't want to miss out on!
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
