Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Stunning the hockey world when he made a surprise comeback to the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers in 1988-89 after three (3) years away from the game, Guy Lafleur would play just a single season with the Blueshirts under the bright lights of Manhattan, registering a 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points in 67 games played. Worn by Guy during the 1988-89 season as a member of the Rangers, is this pair of gloves that have been twice signed by the 5x Stanley Cup champion and 1988 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee. Ferland 3300 model gauntlets in the Rangers' red, white and blue colour way, the gloves are void of any Lafleur identifiers other than the number "10" penned to the inside of each wrist in black marker ink which has faded from wear and age. Sporting additional handwritten notations on the inside of each glove reading "C.T" in blue ink, the outsides of both gloves show numerous stick marks and abrasions with some additional wear to the leather from age. For the palms, some rubbing and darkening is seen over both with a hole seen at the inside seam on the pinky finger on the right hand but the use is overall relatively light. Signed on the outside of each glove by Lafleur between the thumb and pointer finger with blue marker ink signatures, both autographs remain in good condition and legible despite some fading from age. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the lot.
