Never once knocked down in his professional boxing career of 93 total fights, Canadian fighter, George Chuvalo, would battle to a record of 73-18-2 with 63 of his wins coming in the form of knockouts. Said by boxing legend Muhammed Ali to be "the toughest guy" he ever fought after their first bought in 1966, Chuvalo was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1990, the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1997. Offered here, we present this gloves worn by Chuvalo during his November 28th, 1966 fight against Dave Russell in Saint John, New Brunswick, a 2nd round knockout win for the Canadian legend. Made by Spartan of a red coloured leather, the details of the fight are marked on one glove in neat white paint including the notation "KO'd 2nd Rd" while the matching glove is labeled with "Trained by Freddie Brown, Managed by I. Ungerman". Remaining in good condition for their age and still supple feeling, the gloves show obvious use and evidence of tape removal while some of the leather on the front of one has been lost due to a sticker that was affixed and later removed, peeling off some of the material.
Hailing from the personal collection of Irving Ungerman. Canada's premier boxing promoter and manager of championship-class boxers, Irv Ungerman was the first person ever elected to the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame in 1973.
