Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023

The final pick of the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft by the Minnesota North Stars, Richard Coutu would never suit up in the National Hockey League, instead bouncing between various minor leagues while also enjoying stints in the WHA with the Chicago Cougars and Cincinnati Stingers between 1973 and 1976. Offered here, we present this Cougars jersey worn by Coutu during his single game with the club in 1974-75 , their final season in the league, that took place March 11th, 1975. A second half of the season offering made by Champion, the all-mesh construction garment sports a Champion brand tag affixed to the inner collar that displays a size "46" designation while the front of the white, green and yellow ensemble is decorated with a heat-pressed rubberized Cougars team crest. The first North American major professional hockey team to feature player numbers on the front of their jerseys, Coutu's number "25" is found over the left breast, sleeves and verso in dual layer green-over-yellow heat-pressed rubberized numerals while evidence of a nameplate that was once affixed to the upper reverse above the numbers can be made out on both the exterior and interior where leftover threads are still present stuck in the mesh. Attributed to having been in just a single contest, despite this, the jersey shows good evidence of game-wear in the form of puck marks over the front while stick marks are found over both sleeves as well. Displaying with a couple of stains on both the front and reverse while making use of a still present garter style fight strap on the interior, don't let yourself miss out on this seldom seen offering from one of the rival league's most well known team!
