Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Participating in a total of nine (9) tournaments for his native Soviet Union/Russia throughout the course of his career, Vyacheslav "Slava" Kozlov would suit up in five (5) contests for Russia during the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, contributing three (3) points as Russia made it to the semi-finals. Offered here, we present this jersey worn by the two (2) time Stanley Cup and two (2) time Gargarin Cup champion at some point during the international best-on-best tournament. Made by Nike, brand/size "54" tagging is affixed to the inner collar while two different styles of Nike logos have been sublimated into the material of the jersey over the left shoulder and right collar bone. Decorated over the front with "Russia" in Cyrillic and the country's coat of arms in a hockey theme that has once again been sublimated into the material of the bright red garment, a 1996 World Cup of Hockey event patch has been sewn over the left shoulder. Of note, the Russians played four games during the series while wearing their red Nike uniforms. These included a 7-4 win over Slovakia on August 31st, a 2-5 defeat at the hands of USA on September 2nd, the 5-0 routing of Finland on September 6th and another 2-5 beating by Team USA on September 8th in the semis to knock them out of contention. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Kozlov's number "13" in dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill numerals, "Kozlov" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate across the top of the reverse. Remaining in excellent condition and previously sold as a "game-issued" example, wear is seen via marks over the lower left front side and the inside of the left sleeve as well, along with a small fabric snag/hole. Featuring a Nike Team Sports barcode heat pressed to the inside of the reverse hem, the jersey comes accompanied by an NHLPA COA.
