Only the second American ever honoured with the captaincy of the hollowed Montreal Canadiens, Brian Gionta would spend 5 seasons with the club, scoring the franchise’s 20,000th team goal in 2013 and leading the club on a run to the Eastern Conference Finals agains the New York Rangers in 2014. Offered here, we present this collection of items used by Gionta during his time in Montreal including a photo-matched jersey worn by him in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, a signed stick and helmet from the 2013-14 season and a pair of photo-matched gloves from the 2012-13 campaign.
Starting with the jersey, the Reebok made offering sports a lone size "52 tag affixed to the inner collar with a handwritten black ink number "4" found above to denote the garment as being a set 4 playoffs offering. Accented over the front and reverse necklines with both NHL shield and Reebok crests respectively, the front of the jersey has been decorated with the famed "CH" crest of Les Canadiens in layered tackle twill with embroidered details style while the distinguished captain's "C" has been added over the left breast. Having had Gionta's number "21" sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual layer white-over-blue tackle twill numerals, "Gionta" is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Worn for the duration of the playoffs during home games, the jersey shows wear in the form of board burns over both sleeves in the area of the elbows with a few light stick marks in the same areas. Showing additional wear via some stick marks and board paint transfers over the lower reverse and numbers, small unrepaired cuts are found near both sleeve cuffs along with some pilling throughout the interior while velcro strips have sewn to the inside of each cuff as well. Featuring a Canadiens team tag numbered "A03291" inside the reverse hem, a Habs hologram sticker numbered " GU01128" has been affixed to the "1" on the reverse with both accompanied by a matching LOA. Regarding the photo-match, Getty Image #494100129 (May 27th, 2014 vs New York - ECF Game 5) has been matched to the board burn in the bottom white stripe of Gionta's right sleeve near his elbow.
Continuing on, the stick included is a Reebok Ribcore III used by Gionta in March of the 2013-14 season according to the included NHL Alumni Association COA. Sporting "Gionta" factory graphics over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original tape job of white over the handle/knob as well as candy caned down the shaft while the blade tape has been removed to facilitate a flowing silver marker ink signature that appears without issue. Remaining structurally sound and free from any cracks or breaks, the stick shows moderate game-use via some marks/abrasions over the blade, heel and throughout the shaft as well as some soiling/tears over the shaft tape as well.
Next, the helmet included is an Easton made E400 model bucket worn by Brian during the 2013-14 season based on the Easton logos and number decals used. In Montreal's blue colour way, Canadiens logo decals are seen over both sides while Gionta's number "21" appears over the front and reverse alongside an NHL shield sticker. With an Oakley visor affixed to the front, the helmet shows moderate wear via marks and abrasions throughout and heavy salting to the metal snap but remains complete with all the padding on the interior, ear loops and chin strap.
Finally, to conclude the collection is a pair of photo-matched gloves worn by Brian during the 2012-13 season. Easton pro models in Montreal's red, white and blue colour way with "Easton" screened to the wrist of each gauntlet, "Gionta" is embroidered into the wrist guard of each. Exhibiting light-to-moderate use throughout a good number of marks and abrasions over the outside of each, the palms show rubbing to each, heaviest in the left one while the right glove has a hole between the pointer and middle fingers. having had the number "4" penned in black marker to the inside of each wrist guard, the gloves have been photo-matched with Getty Image #163563516 (March 9th, 2013 vs Tampa Bay) to the stick marks over the left thumb and inside of the right pointer finger as well as to the wear to the "T" in "Easton" on the left wrist. A Canadiens hologram numbered "GU02045" is found affixed to the right glove as well.
