Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
O-Pee-Chee was back with a 264-card effort for 1986-87 and the Oilers were back on top of the hockey world at season’s end after the Canadiens’ Stanley Cup victory a year earlier. The heroic efforts of playoff MVP Patrick Roy (and his ensuing formidable career) have made Saint Patrick’s rookie card the focal point of OPC’s ’86-87 set, with the example here presenting beautifully over both sides and in the condition range of EX-MT to NM. With the other 263-cards making up the rest of the set in an overall similar condition range of EX-MT to NM including those of 3-Gretzky (60-40 centering), 11-Yzerman, 122-Lemieux, 137-Coffey, 186-Messier, 259-Gretzky Assist Leaders and 260-Gretzky Scoring Leaders, the set's lead off card of Ray Bourque falls short of the commonly shared high-grade mark seen throughout the set due to some surface damage that puts it closer to the neighbourhood of EX. With the assembly's two other notable rookie cards of John Vanbiesbrouck and Wendel Clark both also sharing the same EX-MT to NM designation, Both checklists remain unmarked and in the condition vicinity of EX-MT to NM as well.
