Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

Reorganizing its front office shortly after losing to the New York Yankees in the 1958 Fall Classic, the Milwaukee Braves finished the 1959 MLB season two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, with Hank Aaron winning the National League batting championship with a career-high .355 batting average. The Braves would also finish in second in the NL the following season, in 1960, behind the powerful eventual World Series champion Pittsburgh Pirates. Originating from the estate of Cecil Finkler, a Former International League Toronto Maple Leafs team executive, we have a ball team-signed by the 1960 Braves. A Spalding Official NL Warren Giles model, 28 have signed in matching blue ink, including Spahn, Mathews, Schoendienst, Adcock, Logan, Pizarro, Pafko, Mantilla, Spangler, Jay, Bruton, Dark, Myatt, McMahon, MacKenzie, Scheffing, Dressen, Roach, Torre and others. The signatures present nicely despite some light fading taking place, with some even toning to the ball. We should also note that the accompanying JSA LOA lists the ball as 1959, but with the inclusion of Alvin Dark, the ball could only be from 1960.
