Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Getting his first taste of the National Hockey League as a member of the Montreal Canadiens in 1964-65 with additional NHL stops in the Big Apple with the New York Rangers in 1965-66 and again in Montreal for the 1966-67 campaign, Garry Peters would finally find a home with the expansion Philadelphia Flyers, playing four (4) seasons with the club to the tune of 229 NHL games played. Hailing from the 1970-71 season, his last in the "City of Brotherly Love", we present this Flyers jersey worn by Peters. A General Athletic made garment that sports a faded General Athletic/washing instructions tag sewn inside the left hip, the inner collar features both Pearson Sporting Goods and size "46" labeling that have been affixed as well. Decorated over the front with a familiar Flyers team crest made up entirely of embroidered details, the distinguished alternate captain's "A" worn by Peters during the season is affixed over the left breast. Having had Garry's number "15" sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual tackle twill numerals, it is these numbers that help date the jersey has prior to the 1970-71 season, only single layer/colour numbers were utilized. Exhibiting light-to-moderate game-wear, stick marks are seen over both sleeves while a board burn is observed near the left cuff and numerous coloured paint transfers are present over the right sleeve as well as a small unrepaired cut. With additional stick marks plastered over the lower front of bright orange cloak, the reverse shows only a small burn with some white coloured transfer over the hem as well as a couple of small stick marks. A true hobby rarity, the interior of the jersey displays sweat staining as well as rust marks from Peters' equipment on both sides of the neck going towards the shoulders and some light frays/fabric puckering plus shrinkage from repeated washings.
