Already a household name in Canada due to his heroics during the famed 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union, Paul Henderson would suit up for a total of 707 National Hockey League games over the course of his career before taking his talents to the rival league of the WHA and playing with the Toronto Toros, following the franchise when they moved to Birmingham in 1976 and staying in their lineup until 1980-81 before hanging up his skates. Offered here, we present this WHA Birmingham Bulls jersey worn by Henderson during the 1977-78 season, their first in "The Magic City". A mesh construction garment made by Russell Athletic, a brand tag from the company displaying a size "L" designation is affixed to the inner collar with the jersey measuring out to roughly a size "48". Decorated over the front underneath the tie-neck collar with a rubberized Bulls team crest as well as the distinguished alternate captain's "A" in layered tackle twill over the left breast, Paul's number "19" has been added over the sleeves and verso in matching rubberized style red-over-blue numerals while "Henderson" has been spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. With the sleeve and hem stripes also rubberized, the jersey shows excellent game-wear through dark stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves which also show numerous board burns, coloured paint transfers (left sleeve only) and unrepaired holes. Additionally, more board burns and unrepaired holes are observed at each side down towards the hem line along with a yellow paint transfer at the left hip. With good pilling present at the elbows on the fight strapless interior, don't miss out on this gem worn by the man responsible for one of the most famous moments in both Canadian and hockey history. An LOA will accompany the piece. ADDENDUM - Further research shows that the jersey is from the 1977-78 season and not the 1976-77 season as previously stated.
