Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

Joe Montana, the man who led the San Francisco 49ers to four Super Bowl wins and who became the first player to be named Super Bowl MVP on three occasions, appears here on his important and coveted 1981 Topps rookie card. As most football/Montana fans know, the former Notre Dame star quarterback, after copping All-American laurels, went on to earn "Joe Cool" and "The Comeback Kid" nicknames for his ability to remain cool under pressure and orchestrate memorable late-game come-from-behind wins. Having been inspected and stabbed by the graders at PSA, who have deemed with worthy of a NM-MT 8 mark, an "OC" (off-center) qualifier appears over the label as well, with one look at either side of the card showing the centering issues that have contributed to the designation. Retaining beautiful colours, sharp corners, smooth edges and clean surfaces that one would expect from a high-grade example such as this, the PSA holder the card is housed in remains in good condition with just a small number of light scratches over both sides worth mentioning for accuracy.
