Exhibiting his patriotism by serving as the 6th Prime Minister of Canada, in office for just a short period from May 1, 1896 to July 8, 1896, Charles Tupper held numerous posts throughout his time in Canadian politics, and remains the oldest person ever to become Canadian prime minister, at age 74. We offer a typed and signed letter from Tupper during the time he served as opposition leader, apparently addressed to Member of Canadian Parliament John Burpee Mills. At 8" x 10" and dated "March 10, 1899", the letter consists of instructions to Mills stating "I cannot ask you to leave until that is attended to". Tupper has signed in fountain pen ink, with just some minor fading taking place. The letter itself shows age toning and has regular fold lines. Tupper passed away in 1915.
