Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Picturing the boys of summer and hailing from years that saw the likes of the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles win World Series crowns, up for grabs here is this group of eight (8) graded Topps baseball cards of various stars and Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees dating from 1962 to 1966. Including examples of players such as Clemente, Koufax, Rose, Mays, Aaron, Brock, Yastrzemski and Maris, all the included specimens have been inspected and slabbed by KSA after their inspection. With the oldest cards found in the form of 1962 Topps examples of Roger Maris and Lou Brock, his rookie card, both have earned marks of VGE 4 while the lone 1963 Topps card included with the lot is that of the cardboard picturing Red Sox outfielder Carl Yastrzemski over the front that has been deemed worthy of a ENM+ 6.5. For the rest of the lot, 1965 Topps examples include the cards of #170 Hank Aaron (EX 5), #160 Roberto Clemente (ENM 6) and #207 Pete Rose (EX 5) while the final two cards are found in the form of cards from 1966 that include Sandy Koufax and Willie Mays that display marks of EX 5 and VGE 4 respectively over their labels. With all the holders remaining in excellent condition, showing just the odd light scratch/scuff, the group is sure to be a welcome collection to an existing or newly started vintage baseball collection.
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
