This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
A fantastic duo of classic offerings to tell you about here, headlined by a pair of legendary New York Islander Hall of Famers, up on the auction block here are complete sets of 1977-78 and 1978-79 O-Pee-Chee hockey releases. Both consisting of 396 card checklists, the 1977-78 set, an overall consistent assembly of EX to EX-MT offerings, is headlined by card #105 of Bryan Trottier that falls in the vicinity of EX to EX-MT with a very slight ding to the bottom right corner. For the rest of the set, keys of 100-Dryden, 110-McDonald, 200-Lafleur and 240-Dionne are all seen as being in the neighbourhood of EX-MT to NM while those of 115-Clarke (90% off-center, rough edge along top border), 140-Salming (light corner wear) and 251-Orr (small ding at top left corner) are all viewed as being slightly worse off around the scope of EX to EX-MT. Also including a VG to VG-EX copy of card #30 picturing Larry Robinson which shows a bottom left corner ding, the first two checklists (#68 and #249) are both in the range of EX-MT to NM with the latter of the two 85% off-center while the third and final one is around EX due to corner wear. All three remain in unmarked condition with the team checklists also unmarked and other star cards in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the assembly.
For the 1978-79 set, found to be in a fairly uniform condition range of VG to VG-EX with most cards having corner wear that is worth mentioning for accuracy, the key rookie card of Mike Bossy is seen as being in VG to VG-EX condition with corner wear while the first-year cardboard of Bernie Federko (corner wear and rounded corners) and Dave Taylor (corner wear) are seen as VG and VG to VG-EX respectively. For the rest of the set, card #330, Ken Dryden's All-Star card, leads the way at VG-EX to EX which is followed behind by the likes of 50-Dryden (corner wear), 215-Clarke (corner wear) and 326-Lafleur AS are all seen as VG to VG-EX. Including a VG range copy of card #90 picturing Guy Lafleur, the contingent is rounded out by FR to G copies of cards #1, Mike Bossy's rookie highlights and #300 of Bobby Orr, both of which are creased. With other star players in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set, the checklist cards are all unmarked with the first two in the grade scope of EX to EX-MT while the third is closer to GOOD. Additionally, the team checklist cards are also all unmarked expect for card #196 of the Colorado Rockies.
