Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
A classic set that is high up on everybody’s want list in the hockey card hobby, O-Pee-Chee’s 1971-72 set is offered here with the assembly made up largely of cards in the condition range of EX in our opinion with some worse and some better scattered throughout. Highlighted by the key rookie cards of Montreal Canadiens teammates Ken Dryden and Guy Lafleur, the Dryden is found to be in the neighbourhood of GOOD due to a light crease and poor corners all the way around while the Lafluer presents much the same way, seen as GOOD while being creased and having a black smudge on the reverse along with corner issues. For the rest of the set, the assembly's other notable first-year example of Marcel Dionne is viewed as being around the condition range of EX with a light wax stain on the reverse while card #193 of Darryl Sittler paces the group condition wise, surviving in the vicinity of EX to EX-MT with a light border ding along the top edge while card #114 of Bobby Clarke, his 2nd year offering, is seen as VG-EX to EX with light corner wear. For the rest of the keys, those of 20-P. Esposito (corner wear), 100-Orr (poor bottom left corner), 245-Orr Trophy (small bottom right corner crease), 251-Orr AS (bottom left corner and bottom edge dent), 262-Howe (out of focus and top right corne) and 263-Beliveau (top edge dent) are all seen as being in the scope of VG to VG-EX. With the card of Bobby Hull, #50 in the checklist in the range of FR to G due to creases, the two checklist cards are in the vicinity of VG-EX to EX with light corner wear and EX-MT to NM respectively, both having not been marked. With nine (9) cards not listed sporting creases, including those of #30 Norm Ullman, #105 Frank Mahovlich and #26 Bobby Hull AS, two (2) cards are also stained and card #110 of Tony Esposito has tape on the front of it. A wonderful trip down memory lane awaits our lucky winning bidder!
