Replacing the Canada Cup as one of the premier championships for professional hockey, the inaugural World Cup of Hockey in 1996 featured all the world's hockey super countries with games hosted in nine (9) cities and five (5) different countries worldwide. Pitting the United States against Canada in the best of three final, Team USA would knock off the Canadiens in the winner take all game three to claim the crown with Brett Hull leading the team and tournament in scoring with 11 points in 7 games played. Offered here, we present this stick used by Team Canada forward Rod Brind'Amour during the tournament. A Hespeler made 5500 model with "Brind'Amour" stamped to the upper shaft but partially covered by the original white cloth wrapping that covers the shaved handle/knob, Rod's number "17" is penned in black marker over the knob and under the name stamp on the shaft. Retaining its original white tape over the blade as well, the stick shows moderate game-use via numerous marks/abrasions to both sides of the shaft, lower shaft and heel with the blade tape displaying puck marks over both sides as well. Additionally, approximately 20 members of Team Canada have signed the forehand side of the shaft including Damphousse, Stevens, Ranford, Messier, Sakic, Brodeur, Joseph, Graves, Lindros and others. Additionally, also included is a 1996 WCOH Team Canada team-signed jersey. A pro on-ice style offering made by Bauer, "ProWear" and size "44" fly tags are affixed to the inner collar of the all red garment that features a large Hockey Canada crest over the front and similar logos sublimated into the material over both shoulders. In good condition with a large stain near the left shoulder and smaller ones at the left elbow, fifteen (15) members of Team Canada have signed over the front with black marker ink signatures that display well with some a bit lighter than others including Brodeur, Lindros, Damphousse, Joseph, Sakic, Stevens, Ranford, Crawford (coach), Desjardins, Verbeek, Odelein and others.
