Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Originating from the archives of the mighty Montreal Canadiens, we have a coloured Howie Morenz display, along with a 1926-27 Habs commemorative team plaque of the Bleu Blanc Rouge. Dubbed during the period as the “Babe Ruth of Hockey”, Howie Morenz is one of the most iconic players in the history of the Canadiens franchise, and we offer a colourized image of the superstar that has been mounted onto a wood board display. Pictured in glorious detail, including his brightly coloured uniform, the display measures 16" x 20", with string to the reverse to facilitate hanging. There are a few scuffs and marks on the front and corners of the display as to be expected from hanging in one of hockey's holy temples, but these are very minor imperfections. Celebrating their 18th season of play in the NHL, and a faithful reproduction of the original that once proudly hung in the Canadiens' dressing room at the hallowed Montreal Forum, we have a wooden plaque commemorating the the 1926-27 Montreal Canadiens, with this specimen likely displayed at the Bell Centre. At approx 13” x 15” and featuring beveled edges with a full colour Habs logo along the top and “1926” and “1927”, the players and management are listed in two rows of thick white paint beneath including HOF legends Howie Morenz, Aurel Joliat, George Hainsworth and others. Exhibiting just very light wear surface wear with holes over the reverse to facilitate hanging, the plaque is ready for display in your hockey shrine. LOAs from Classic Auctions will be included for both pieces.
