Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Two of the greatest baseball players of all-time and taking the field for the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox during baseball's golden era of the 1950s, Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams would combine to slug a total of 1057 home runs during their collective 4693 games in the Major Leagues, with both inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame after their playing days, in 1974 (Mantle) and 1966 (Williams) respectively. Offered here, we present this pair of cards individually picturing the hall of fame pairing. Starting with the Mantle card, an all-star offering hailing from Topps' 1958 release, the cardboard depicting Mickey following the path of the ball after hitting it is found to be in the condition range of G to G+ with the image on the front completely off-center while a light crease is also observed. For the Williams card, #34 in the 1959 Fleer Ted Williams set, talks about Ted setting the runs scored record over the front and reverse with the image on the front showing him sliding into home. Remaining in a VG-EX to EX condition range, light corner wear is the main things hampering the card from a higher mark. A neat pair of vintage HOF offerings, don't let these pass you and your all-important collection by!
