Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
A pair of Hall of Fame twigs is up for grabs here, once wielded by one of the greatest defensemen to ever lace up the skates and patrol a National Hockey League blue line, Ray Bourque. Finally hoisting Lord Stanley's mug in 2001 as a member of the Colorado Avalanche, the sticks offered here come in the form of Sher-Wood made examples used by Ray during his lengthy time with the Boston Bruins in the late-1980s and mid-1990s. Both retaining their original tape jobs of white over the shaved handles and knobs with black cloth covering both blades, intact accent stickers are found at the bottom of each shaft. Sporting either stamped or printed factory graphics reading "Bourque 77", both sticks feature black coloured shafts with natural blades with the pair remaining structurally sound with no cracks or breaks. Displaying factory codes stamped to the underside of the lower shaft, including one on the late-1980s specimen that reads "NHL", the sticks both show just light use through a few scattered marks and abrasions over the shafts, lower shafts and heels with the blade tape of both sticks showing puck marks over both sides along with some light soiling. Finally, the toe of the blade on the mid-1990s stick has a small chip worth mentioning for accuracy.
