The longest serving New York Islanders captain in franchise history, Denis Potvin was widely regarded as one of the best blueliners in the NHL during his tenure, with three James Norris trophies won along with being the first defenseman to score 1,000 career points. Offered here, we have a stick used by the four-time Stanley Cup champion during the 1983-84 season. A rare Titan Turbo model with “D. Potvin” boldly stamped over the lower shaft, a factory production date stamp reading "AVR 24 1984" is found on the underside of the lower shaft as well, indicating that the stick was likely used during the 1984 Stanley Cup Playoffs where the Islanders made a run to their fifth straight Stanley Cup Finals. Retaining its original black tape job over the blade, with a couple strands ripped near the toe on the forehand side, Potvin's black coloured knob and spirals over the handle also remain present, covered by a white-now-yellowed cloth layer as well. Displaying a hand written "5" over the upper shaft, the stick shows use via abrasions and dark coloured marks over the shaft, lower shaft and heel with marks over both sides of the soiled blade tape as well. Additionally, the underside of the blade shows no major wear while the toe appears to have been shaved down a bit to Potvin's preference.
