Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
A bloody, and what many would argue, is a sensationalized look at one of the defining events in American history, Topps’ 1962 Civil War News set remains one of the most collected trading card sets of all-time with the 88-card set featuring beautiful and highly detailed artwork. Offered here, is this near complete assembly of the ever-popular release that includes eighty-six (86) of the eighty-eight (88) cards that make up a full set. Missing only cards #5 Exploding Fury and #45 The Riverboat Explodes for completion, the rest of the cards, originally coming in packs that contained a replica piece of Confederate money, are seen as being in the overall uniform high-grade condition range of EX to EX-MT after inspection with six (6) cards sporting lower grades spread throughout. Displaying a newspaper like design over the reverses, the notables are accented by card #1 of The Angry Man that is seen as being in the neighbourhood of EX to EX-MT with slight corner wear, the story is the same for 2-President Jeff Davis as well while 7-Death at Sea is also EX to EX-MT (light print marks). With card #38 of General Grant closer to EX shape because of centering issues and light print marks at the top border, card #39 of General Lee is around the scope of GOOD because of creasing and corner wear. Finished off with the checklist card, #88 in the set, that is both marked and off-center, the set is an all-time classic worthy of contemplation.
