Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/28/2023
One of many new releases to emerge in the early-1930s, the Hamilton Chewing Gum company’s 1933-34 V288 hockey card set rings in with a checklist that includes a total of 21 cards and features some of the era’s key players. Offered here in complete set form, this assembly of the desirable release, displaying both French and English bios on their reverses as well as “Puck Gum”, is spearheaded by freshy graded PSA examples of HOFers Howie Morenz (PSA GOOD 2), King Clancy (PSA VG 3), Aurel Joliat (PSA VG-EX+ 4.5) and the rookie card of Charlie Conacher (PSA VG+ 3.5). Made up entirely of green background variation offerings (other colours including yellow, blue and orange were also produced), the rest of the set, remaining in raw ungraded form, is paced by two cards in the EX condition range that picture Nick Wasnie and Bill Thoms over their fronts while cardboard seen as being in the scope of VG-EX shape includes the likes of HOFer Ace Bailey, Alex Levinsky and Harold Cotton. For cards seen in the neighbourhood of VG condition, included are the examples of HOFer Joe Primeau, HOFer Marty Burke, HOFer Busher Jackson, Lorne Chabot, HOFer Hap Day, Larry Aurie and an additional copy of card #1 picturing Nick Wasnie while cardboard viewed as falling into the category of GOOD includes Andy Blair, HOFer Sylvia Mantha, HOFer Red Horner, Pit Lepine and Ebbie Goodfellow as well as extras of Thoms, HOFer Day and Aurie. Lastly, the set is rounded out by an “Authentic” range card of Wildor Larochelle.
